Sideswept

So I finally got my US visa after the whole ordeal that I had to go through. I had to miss the first interview because of my own stupidity. All the way from Eindhoven to Amsterdam driving since 5AM just to arrive sans passport. Who goes to a visa interview without a passport?! So I had to reschedule the appointment. Or rather, make a new one. For the second time I wasn’t taking any chances of being late so I stayed over in Amsterdam from the day before.

By the way I’m loving these Acne Studio jeans that I bought on sale. I ordered some pairs online before purchasing this pair and none of them fit! I was so disheartened. But decided to just go to the store and try a couple of pairs. And these ones are the winner. What I like about them is they don’t stretch even after wearing them back to back. I can’t say the same about some of my other jeans.

Shoes Collection: Boots

I was planning on jamming all photos of my shoes with text in one blog post. But trying to categorize them as well as trying to figure out the pretties markup gave me headache. Thus, I will make separate posts for each shoe category. You’d think as a front-end developer, I would figure out the markup with my eyes closed. But man oh man, I just burned my fingers from making chicken nuggets, I’m not about to set myself in another journey.

So let’s talk about shoes! My second favorite accessories after bags.

Isabel Marant Etoile Deyissa

My latest boots purchase. Come to think of it, the last time I bought myself a pair of boots were last Summer when I bought my Dicker boots. I have been waiting for quite some time for these boots to go on sale. Honestly, I didn’t think they were ever gonna go on sale. Even a few days prior me purchasing the boots online, I checked deBijenkorf sale section (online) and they weren’t. Good thing I went back to check them again because now I’m a proud owner of these boots.

The leather is so beautiful and smooth. The first thing I did when I picked them up from the store was to bring them to the cobbler. The guy even witnessed me ripping off the tissue paper that covered the shoe box!

Isabel Marant Etoile Dicker

Second boots on the line is my other Isabel Marant boots. They have served me well for the past year and I believe they will continue to do so. I have a feeling though that my Deyissa pair will get more use than these ones eventually due to color. Although I did choose taupe because I was in the market for something else than black.

One thing I noticed about the two boots above, they require no breaking in at all. No feet were harmed in the period of me wearing them.

5th Avenue Chelsea

My oldest pair of the three. Trusty old pair of Chelsea boots. This pair has been with me for the past three years. They need some serious spa day. I think I paid around 30 or 40 euros for these shoes and they have proved their worth. The temptation is real to ‘upgrade’ them to a nicer pair, but honestly, they will look brand spanking new once I revive them.

So those are my current boots that I’ve been rotating frequently. Other boots that I do own but not mentioned are in process of rehoming. I find that I didn’t wear them enough to justify keeping them. But feel like they can worth something if I try to sell them first before donating them. Also there’s another pair of boots that I will put into “Others” category since I only wear them on a specific day.

Style Rut

This is probably the 1000th time I try to downsize my wardrobe. I do indeed have less clothes than before. Which I finally find out, not enough. After the 1000th time, I finally figure out that I’m in a style rut. I have been dressing the same since I was 12. Which isn’t a bad thing per se.

I have been reusing the same formula over and over again. Shirt/t-shirt/sweater, skinny jeans, ankle boots/sneakers. The formula has been proven to be working well for me. I bike daily to work so wearing tight skirt is impractical. Also have you ever tried biking with stilettos??? Oh maybe I need to mention that my bike is a fixie bike so it adds about 20% of overall discomfort.

I’m guessing the core problem of why I feel discontent to what I have in my closet is the fact that I’m still holding onto pieces that are… dingy. I still have my very first long sleeve t-shirt from ZARA. And the surface of that t-shirt that has no pills is much smaller than the one that has. Also some striped t-shirts that are lackluster. But it’s very difficult for me to part with those items because I still do wear them on a daily basis. Despite not feeling 100 whenever I put them on. But they do play a big role on my everyday dressing.

So what I’m currently trying to do is to keep the clothes that don’t spark joy (omg, I’m sorry for using that phrase) in a suitcase and never open for about a month or two or three. If I can figure out enough outfits with what I currently hang in my rack then I’m going to ‘dispose’ the content of that suitcase (don’t worry, by dispose I don’t mean just throwing them into the garbage bin).

We shall see how this goes, right now my closet is quite bare but the pieces there are the ones that I’m very much in love with. Also I just noticed, how come do I have more jackets than blouses????
