I meant to write up this post in the month of March when it’s exactly a year after my wedding day. But life got in the way or I sabotaged myself time to actually draft and post this post. So here we are, in the end of April 2019. But I still would like to journal about the things that I love about my wedding last year.
Family & Friends
As someone who lives far away from home, which equals to living far away from family & close friends, being with them was one of the things I was looking forward to. All my extended families were present during our reception and my closest friends were all there dressed in uniform.
My mom was extremely excited to arrange this whole ceremony. I was happy that she was able to enjoy every single decision. After everything was done she even daydream about planning another wedding. For whom? I don’t know hahahaha.
I wasn’t that bride who stressed over her wedding dress. Which I was so thankful for. I did not want to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a dress that I will use once in my life. Despite the importance of the dress.
The story of how my dress came to life was quite funny actually. My mom and I decided to go for tailor made dress because we can get it cheaper that way. However, my mom doesn’t have my body measurements to give to the tailor so I had to provide her with that. But I have no clue how to even measure myself hahaha. So when I visited a friend in NYC in 2017, my friend, who’s a fashion designer, measured me. What a crazy ride?!
My mom’s friend did the embellishments on the bodice. Since I had about 5 days from the day I arrived in Indonesia to my reception day, we did not have enough time to make some adjustments. So I had to wear two corsets underneath the dress to make it fit!
The Fact That We Got Married
Hahahaha of course the main thing that I love about our wedding is the fact that we got married! Deo is the most beautiful human being on planet earth and I can’t imagine living my life without him.
I woke up every day feeling safe and glad that I have him next to me. It’s so cheesy and you probably feel sick reading this but I don’t write this kind of thing everyday so just bear with this paragraph haha.
One of my 19 of 2019 is to not buy new shoes. A pledge I successfully kept until mid April 2019. Believe me, there were weak moments when I ordered a pair of boots from Zalando and then quickly cancelled the order because I came to my senses about 2 seconds after I hit order. But I eventually caved for a pair of wedges espadrilles. Which to be fair I have wanted for at least a year if not two.
I was waiting for the longest time for Zalando to stock up the black pair. Because I felt like that’s the only sensible choice for me and my style. Not to mention that black requires zero to low maintenance effort. But I ended up going for the cream colored shoes instead since the choice from Zalando is only that or navy. And I thoroughly enjoy shopping from Zalando due to their customer service.
Size wise, I went for 37 instead of 38. I thought for the longest time that I’m a true 38. But I have been buying 37 shoes for my last few shoe purchases so I don’t even know what size my feet are anymore. I guess, 37.5? At least with this size my feet don’t flop around in the shoes when I walk.
Since I haven’t had these for long, I can’t vouch for the durability. However, despite the height they’re plenty comfortable. I road tested these shoes for walking around for > 13.000 steps and didn’t notice discomfort on my arch. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the bottom of my feet. The canvas rubs my feet uncomfortably so I might need to add some kind of foot petals to fix this.
Also after wearing them for 3 days in a row, they’re no longer look as crips so I have cleaned them with some soapy water using toothbrush. I might need to do this quite frequently but I don’t really mind that. I guess as I grow older I’m starting to see the small things really do make an outfit.
So yea, this is going to be my Summer shoes of choice. I feel very feminine and put together when I wear them and that’s something I missed in my Summer wardrobe.
I fell into the Theranos hole. At this moment I’m knee deep in the book Bad Blood by John Carreyrou.
That testimonial on the cover by Bill Gates really sums my experience toward this book. I really couldn’t put the book down. I fell asleep last night with my Kindle still on.
Small excerpt about the whole Elizabeth Holmes situation; she is the founder of a company called Theranos that promised people that they can use this simple device to get information about your health only by a small sample of blood. Only a small prick of your finger, they said. She was 19 when she founded the company which made her the youngest self made billionaire in the world according to Forbes.
However, things went south when apparently the whole company operated on lies and deceit. Theranos’ technology has never worked. But Elizabeth was so determined to make this happened which has led her to make decisions that weren’t ethical. The company ultimately shut down by August 2018 and now Elizabeth and her partner are facing potential jail time on the charges of fraud.
Since I’m still reading the book, I can’t give you yet my review about it. But the investigation that John did was so brutal and detailed. This book is definitely a page turner.
